Chelsea FC Youngster Charly Musonda Considering Stamford Bridge Future

Chelsea FC’s Charly Musonda is reportedly considering his future at Stamford Bridge after a lack of first team opportunities.

Musonda has been touted as one of the Blues’ brightest prospects but he currently finds insurmountable hurdles lying in his path to the first team. This is increasingly looking like another one of those stories regarding a promising youngster which seemingly always surface during a Chelsea campaign.

The Telegraph states that Musonda is set for showdown talks with the club in the coming weeks as he contemplates alternative options.

"Talks over what happens next regarding Musonda are likely to take place over the coming weeks, ahead of the January transfer window."

The Belgian has been capped by his national team at under 21 level and many pundits believe that he has the talent and potential to supersede his compatriots Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard.

Musonda joined Chelsea in 2012, switching from Anderlecht, and has quickly established himself as a youngster to watch. In fact, he has attracted interest from several leading European clubs including Arsenal and thus will not be short of options should he leave Stamford Bridge.

Having been included in Chelsea’s squads for the post-season tour to Thailand and Australia, the midfielder would have been forgiven for believing a first team role was in the offing.

The Telegraph even claims that a loan move to Vitesse Arnhem (who else…) was turned down due to this potential.

However, nothing has so far materialised and it is unlikely that the first team will come calling as the season wears on.

The fact that his relationship with the club has reached such a point will concern Chelsea fans. The Blues have let some bright prospects slip through the net (Josh McEachran, for example) by not affording them the opportunities necessary for their development.

Despite Musonda signing a contract extension earlier this year, his prospects are evidently so bleak that he is willing to chance his luck elsewhere.

Consequently, an offer of an improved deal is unlikely to go down well with the 19-year-old. The most likely scenario will see another loan move arranged. However, given that this news has leaked, many leading clubs may begin to signal their interest in securing his services. Should this happen, Musonda may reject a loan move in an attempt to engineer a departure.

While he is still young, the sad truth in modern football is that if you are not starting at this age, your chances of succeeding at a big club diminish exponentially. There will undoubtedly be several top outfits around the continent who will be willing to guarantee the Belgian first team football.

If Musonda were to leave, it would a be huge loss to the Blues. Moreover, you cannot blame the player either.
