Reports: Chelsea FC Willing To Sell Eden Hazard

Chelsea FC superstar Eden Hazard may leave Stamford Bridge if the right price is offered.

As we move towards the opening of the winter transfer window, rumours regarding big money moves are kicking into gear. Not just for January either, as The Metro reports that the Blues could sell Hazard to Real Madrid in the summer.

It’s always worth reiterating that this is mere speculation emanating from questionable corners, but it is an intriguing story nonetheless. Everyone has a price and Eden Hazard’s is apparently in excess of £80million.

"In what would be close to a world-record move, the Blues are reportedly willing to let the Belgian leave if they receive an offer in the region of £84.2million."

If that is the money on the table, there would be few Blues fans who would be angered by a sale. That is a hell of a lot of money…just check out what Raheem Sterling’s transfer fee could buy you.

Hazard has been in fairly poor form this season. The Belgian has had the odd impressive game (Norwich City, for example), but the majority of his performances have been in line with those of the team in general.

In fact, Jose Mourinho has even dropped the previously untouchable winger in actions that did not even cause an outcry from the Blues fans. Several games have also seen Hazard subbed off as Chelsea chased a result, unthinkable last season.

Furthermore, after the admittedly excessive spending that characterised Roman Abramovich’s early reign, the club are now bound by Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Consequently, Chelsea’s transfer kitty is often funded by proceeds for player sales.

The club’s failure to splash the cash and bring in quality players over the summer has seemingly hurt them severely in this campaign. The lack of fresh and credible competition has contributed to the lacklustre displays from former key players, Hazard included.

With some stating that the dismal transfer action was due to limited funds, an £80 million windfall will certainly help Michael Emenalo as Chelsea look to rebound next season.

Having said that, these rumours are just that. Explanations regarding player burnout have been used in defence of Hazard and despite his poor form, he is still the creative centrepiece of this Chelsea side. Given that the whole squad (bar Willian) have had forgettable campaigns, the Blues brass will not suddenly be wanting to cut the Belgian.
