Chelsea FC 2016/17 Kits Leaked

As is the custom these days, Chelsea FC’s supposed kits for next season have been leaked.

The latest bit of Chelsea gossip doing the rounds today is not transfer related, but regards the club’s 2016/17 kits. Graphics depicting what will reportedly be the strips for the next campaign have been leaked on Instagram and everyone is getting excited. Or something.

Fashion has become an alarmingly important part of modern football, with fans eagerly awaiting the kit launches of their respective clubs. So with that in mind, let’s analyse the shirts.

The home kit seems to have ditched the button collar and the red livery. Instead, the Chelsea lion is printed across the shirt. Many are digging this design, but I don’t. Quoting the Metro, it does ‘look a bit like a pyjama top’ and a bit of a joke too.

The away strip measures up better, with a very clean-cut and crisp white vibe. Again, the red edging has been dropped for a more authentic Chelsea look but I still think that this season’s kit reigns supreme. The shoulder stripes and the thick blue trimming give the shirt more character and boldness. This latest incarnation, meanwhile, screams 0-0.

With regard to the third kit, it’s hard to fathom exactly what is going on. There seems to be a jogging bottom-esque grey mesh in the top half, before it gives way to the jet black that has been a staple of Chelsea’s recent alternative uniforms.

It’s also nice to see the return of the neon green, a colour that has featured on Blues kits throughout the years.

Adidas have employed their signature three stripes down the inside of the shirts, which lends credence to these leaks. This falls in line with the officially released adidas kits for several national teams ahead of Euro 2016, with the majority designed within this framework.

You may have also noticed the minor change in Yokohama Rubber’s logo. Instead of ‘Yokohama Tyres’ being branded across the chest, just ‘Yokohama’ will be present. News of this logo change has already been doing the rounds as the Japanese firm looks to best use this prime exposure and their £40 million-per-year deal.

Furthremore, another change (should these kits be genuine) is that the Yokohama logo will adapt to the colour theme of the shirt. This season’s uniforms all have an unaltered white and red logo. However, next year’s tops will see the colour fit in with the prevailing scheme, even going neon green for the third strip. It certainly provides for a much sleeker finish.
