Premier League Hot Takes: Manchester City Leave It Late, Bournemouth Do It Again

facebooktwitterreddit

There was a fair share of excitement as six Premier League fixtures took place across the country. Here are some quick takes.

The Premier League is as competitive as it has ever been and the supposed minnows continued to strike today. The afternoon may have been short on goals, but it certainly wasn’t short on drama.

  • Bournemouth defeated Manchester United 2-1 in the evening kick-0ff. Junior Stanislas gave the Cherries an early lead from a wind-assisted corner (seriously…check it out) while Joshua King scored the winner to cancel Marouane Fellaini’s equaliser (seriously..check it out).
  • King must be feeling like a…King at the moment (high-five).
  • Louis Van Gaal sucks. The tactician appears to be stuck in the stone age and while United may have been hampered by numerous injuries, the fact that Fellaini was arguably the side’s most effective player today speaks volumes about their style of football.
  • By the way, Man Utd’s defence comprised of Daley Blind, Barry from down the road, Roger from the pub and one-eyed rowdy Ryan.
  • Chelsea FC fans, meanwhile, will take solace in the fact that United fell at the feet of the same team that humiliated them last weekend. You have to find positives somewhere, right?
  • I didn’t catch the game, but Everton apparently dominated Norwich City only to draw 1-1. If Roberto Martinez wants to challenge for a top four spot, his team need to stop dropping needless points like this.
  • Romelu Lukaku, meanwhile, scored for the sixth consecutive game, almost certainly guaranteeing that some money from the bank of Aj will be going on him scoring against Leicester City next weekend.
  • After sacking Garry Monk, Swansea City appeared as though they were going to prove Huw Jenkins right with Bafetimbi Gomis equalising in the 90th minute. Unfortunately, Manchester City ruined everyone’s day by scoring in the 92nd minute through Yaya Toure to win 2-1.
  • When I mean everyone’s day, I actually mean everyone but the five City fans present in the stadium to see Toure snatch the victory.
  • Crystal Palace defeated Southampton 1-0 via a Yohan Cabaye goal. This gives the Eagles back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time in over a year. Having finished 10th last season, improved home form will only see Alan Pardew’s men move up the table.
  • What’s a Patrick Bamford and where can I find one?
  • The North East as a collective suck at football again. Sunderland tried to pretend otherwise with consecutive victories over Crystal Palace and Stoke City, but they fell to Watford 1-0 this afternoon. Sam Allardyce has got one hell of a job on his hands. If only it could fit in his proverbial hands, it is literally that large a task. Absolutely massive. Bigger than Big Sam himself. And he is big.
  • Quique Sanchez Flores, meanwhile, is doing his best to bring some Spanish suave to the touchline. Trotting around in a trendy coat and scarf while sporting a greyish beard that only the coolest of cool people could wear well, Quique/Sanchez/Flores is evidently passing his class onto his team. Make that five wins in the last seven for the newly-promoted side.
  • I hate Manchester City.
  • West Ham United played Stoke.
