Chelsea FC continued their disappointing Barclays Premier League form with a 2-1 loss away to Leicester City.

The Blues fell yet again as Jose Mourinho failed to outwit former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri. The Foxes continued their incredible form through talisman Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. The West Londoners pulled one back late on, but couldn’t add to the drama with another goal.

Coming off the heels of a solid UEFA Champions League victory over Porto, Chelsea looked primed to earn a result against high flying Leicester City. During the early the part of the game it did seem that the visitors were the more comfortable side, though they still lacked creativity in the final third, a disturbing trend so far this season.

However, the Blues would suffer a big loss after Eden Hazard was forced off the pitch with just under a half hour played. Vardy fouled Hazard in the middle of the park, and the Chelsea player looked worse for the wear as he hobbled off holding his back.

It would then indeed be Vardy who would add to his impressive goalscoring record, breaking the deadlock in the process. The forward was able to split the Chelsea defense and found himself on the end of Mahrez’s pass unmarked. He struck the ball well and made the finish look easy as he wheeled away in celebration.

Despite the best efforts of the Blues, Leicester would take their 1-0 lead into the second period. Mourinho’s men once again found themselves in a precarious position.

From the second half kickoff, Chelsea looked more likely to score. Nemanja Matic came close to earning an equalizer, but his free header sailed over the crossbar.

Just minutes after that incident, the hosts were able to double their lead. Mahrez found himself wide open at the far post, and after a couple of twists and turns he was able to free himself up and beat Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea now had it all to do.

Misfiring forward Diego Costa missed an opportunity to get his side back into the game in the 61st minute. Costa found himself one-on-one with Kasper Schmeichel, but was unable to beat the keeper with his grounded effort.

The visitors were able to pull one back in the 77th minute, though. Pedro managed to pick out Loic Remy who made no mistake from point blank range. With 13 minutes plus additional time to go, Chelsea fans had reason to hope a draw could be earned.

Even with five minutes added on, the Blues couldn’t get a second goal and fell 2-1. Another disappointing result and another disappointing performance. They’ll look to get back on track this Saturday against Sunderland.
