12. David Luiz vs FC Basel – 2012/13

David Luiz was on a goalscoring roll this season, particularly in the Europa League. Having already scored against Basel in the first leg of the knockout tie, the second goal came when Chelsea were comfortably ahead. Despite the lack of importance associated with the effort, it was an incredible goal that booked Chelsea FC’s ticket to the Europa League Final.

Eden Hazard sped down the right side of the Basel box before crossing to Frank Lampard just outside the penalty area. Lampard took what looked like a poor touch before laying it off to David Luiz who had a bit of space. He let fly a venomous shot with his supposedly weaker left foot.

It flew past the Basel keeper and was a true upper 90 strike to the left corner. For all his defensive flaws, David Luiz had two howitzers attached to his hip and had a knack for scoring absolute screamers.
