6. Guus Hiddink

Guus Hiddink is expected to be unveiled as the club’s immediate replacement in the next few days. The Dutchman has been here once before, taking over from Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2009. During that the spell as interim boss, Hiddink rescued the Blues by leading them to third place in the Premier League and bringing home the FA Cup.

The former Russia manager has an amicable relationship with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and thus he is the favourite to reprise his role this season.

However, he currently finds himself unemployed after a fairly disastrous spell with Holland. Hence, he should also be considered for the long-term job.

Should Hiddink emulate the success of his first tenure, there is a possibility that he will be offered the reigns on a more permanent basis.

The distinct lack of variety in his domestic success may be held against him, though. He has won six league titles but all of them have come with PSV Eindhoven, the latest being in 2006. He also won the European Cup with the Dutch outfit, but that was way back in 1988.

Apart from that FA Cup win in 2009, his only other palpable success over the last decade has been bringing Russia to the 2008 EUROs semi-finals.

Nevertheless, it is worth keeping an eye on Hiddink when he inevitably steps in as interim manager. He seemed to command respect from the players during his first stint and that’s exactly what is needed to be successful with this Chelsea squad.
