TV personality Piers Morgan has hit out at Chelsea FC for parting ways with Jose Mourinho.

In a move that will further strengthen the position of Chelsea fans irate with Jose Mourinho’s sacking, well-known Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has criticised the club for their decision.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Morgan claimed that the dismissal of the Special One was the worst decision in football history.

"As an ardent Arsenal fan I should have been thrilled at the failure of a man who dubbed our own manager Arsene Wenger a ‘specialist in failure’.But I wasn’t.Instead, I was flabbergasted. This is the single worst decision in the history of the sport."

What makes this intervention more significant is Morgan’s stance on Arsene Wenger. The Gooners fan has for long been critical of the continual employment of the Frenchman, given his poor trophy record in the last decade. Morgan regularly spends afternoons tweeting out disparaging comments about the seemingly immovable object.

Whether or not his calls for Wenger’s head are justified (they are), he is evidently part of what seems like the vast majority of Blues fans who are disgusted by the board’s decision.

Morgan goes on to state that it is the players (whom he describes as ‘prima donnas’) who should be losing their job instead, as there is no chance that Mourinho is ultimately responsible for this unfathomable run of form.

"He’d ‘lost the dressing room’ apparently.Really?Or could it be that many of these so-called superstars had lost their heart, their hunger, their bottle and their commitment? The very least their fans might expect for that is that they give every game 100%."

This is the point that Chelsea fans have made throughout the last 18 hours or so. The Blues are in 16th position not because of Mourinho’s tactics, but due to the lack of effort and commitment from the players.

Now, of course, there have been occasions on which Mourinho’s decision-making has been questionable. However, the overriding feeling is that the players have simply sulked and given up.

With Blues fans paying upwards of £50 per ticket and continually showing their passion for the club, this is unacceptable.

Mourinho has been made the scapegoat and he has paid the ultimate price.

In fact, many are claiming that a select group of overpaid whiny supposed ‘professionals’ essentially forced him out of Stamford Bridge, creating unrest in the dressing room and failing to put in sufficient effort.

The most important thing is that this isn’t just the opinion of this writer, but the general consensus of Chelsea fans. The overwhelmingly negative reaction to the news of Mourinho’s dismissal only supports this. Blues players may try to claim that these sentiments are nonsense, but the fact that these beliefs are shared by so many is testament to the type of image that the squad have projected as they have slumped to defeat after defeat.

I never thought that I would say this, but thank you Piers Morgan for talking some sense.
