24. Frank Leboeuf – Fee: £2.5m

Stamford Bridge was home to the bulk of Frank Leboeuf’s achievements. The Frenchman joined the Blues in 1996 for a minimal £2.5 million fee, making the jump from RC Strasbourg.

His five years with Chelsea were very productive, as he made over 200 competitive appearances. Leboeuf played a vital role in an incredibly successful period for the club, helping them to two FA Cups, one League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. Sitting in the heart of defence, Leboeuf provided an option at the back that was far from the agricultural nature that typified Premier League defenders at the time.

He was also a renowned penalty taker, which enabled him to hit the back of the 24 times for the Blues. In a heady few years for Chelsea, Leboeuf was a somewhat underrated squad member.

His grace was also rewarded on the international stage. The defender was an important part of the France team that triumphed in both the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 EUROs.

For £2.5 million, Leboeuf was a steal.
