49. Ken Shellito: 1959-65

Ken Shellito was a fullback for Chelsea FC in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. He came up through the Chelsea academy and became a first team regular under manager Tommy Docherty. Shellito was a primarily attacking fullback known for his rampaging runs opposite fellow fullback and Chelsea great Eddie McCreadie.

The London native was part of the Chelsea side that lifted the 1965 League Cup but was not included the squad for the final because of injury. What could have been a great career with the Blues was cut short because of a serious knee issue but in seven seasons he made 285 appearances. A once promising international career that would have lead to his inclusion in the 1966 World Cup squad was also cut down by that same injury.

Shellito is also one of several former players who went on to become manager of Chelsea as he took on the post from 1977-78. He did not lift any trophies with the club but he is remembered as one of the greats in a side full of legends that fill up much of this list. The 75-year-old is now working for the Asian Football Confederation in Malaysia and is considered as the third best right-back in Blues’ history.
