Chelsea FC striker Radamel Falcao is fighting to get back to full fitness

Chelsea FC have a striker problem. Diego Costa is having trouble staying fit even though he is back to scoring regularly, and Loic Remy does not seem interested in playing football for the Blues. Radamel Falcao on the other hand, wants to play desperately but is having the worst luck when it comes to injuries.

The Colombian striker seems to take ten steps back for every step he takes forward on his road to recovery and there is a new problem that crops up every week. This is often the case with elite athletes that suffer serious injuries as they come back from that initial blow. Their bodies overcompensate for that injured knee, ankle, hamstring, etc. and other injuries crop up.

In Falcao’s case, he has never been the same since suffering a major knee injury several years ago. According to him, the current injury crisis he is facing has nothing to do with that knee problem but it is likely a symptom of a larger problem.

More from The Pride of London

Falcao, as quoted in ESPN FC, spoke about his rehab:

"“[The injury has] no relationship with my knee – this is something purely muscular. I was coming back from a muscular injury, but what has happened now is that during a training session I slipped and had a small recurrence. It could happen to anybody.”“My knee has recovered. The problem is since then I have not had the chance to play a whole season to get back my confidence and become competitive again. I’m focused on getting healthy and try not to destabilise myself.”“People talk a lot, but they also say some positive things and I try to welcome those messages because they encourage me and give me what I am looking for. I work every day to play again soon.”Source: ESPN FC"

At least Chelsea supporters can be assured of the fact that Falcao is fighting to get back in to the team. Loic Remy cut a very disinterested figure when he came on against Arsenal and fluffed two golden chances to put the match to bed and better Chelsea’s goal difference. He is also reportedly angling for a loan deal to another Premier League club with Leicester City and Newcastle United among his targets.

With only Falcao and Costa as the senior strikers on the team, the Blues appear ready to take a chance on Alexandre Pato that could backfire tremendously. He has not had injury issues in a few years since moving to Brazil but many supporters are convinced that he will be joining Falcao in the physio’s office very soon. At least the pair will have company during any rehabilitation exercises.
