February is a huge month for Chelsea FC, with multiple high-profile games awaiting. The next few weeks will be crucial in salvaging this campaign.
Guus Hiddink is leading Chelsea into a vital month of the season with games in three different competitions. The Blues have to face both Manchester clubs – United in the Premier League and City in the FA Cup – along with a tricky Champions League first leg game in Paris against PSG. League games against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge and Southampton at St Mary’s complete a busy month for the Blues.
With the title and top four gone the only possible route back to next season’s Champions League is by winning it which as everyone knows is no easy feat. That is why the games against PSG and Manchester City are vital as the Champions League and FA Cup are the main priorities and the only way Chelsea can salvage their abysmal season is by winning at least one of them.
Chelsea are under no real pressure in the league so those games become a bit of a free swing for them. Obviously, they don’t want to be languishing in the bottom half of the table so the higher they can finish the better but the most two important games this month is the FA Cup tie against Manchester City and the European clash against PSG. The fans need to have something to look forward to and these two cup competitions are vitally important for the Blues to keep some sort of optimism and pride heading towards the closing months of the season.
The positive for Chelsea is that they can solely focus on these two competitions and they can afford to rest players in the Premier League games so that they are fresh for the important knockout fixtures. My personal opinion is that the FA Cup is the best chance to win silverware this season but no-one thought that Chelsea would win the Champions League in 2012 so who knows what might happen? If they can beat PSG and get the luck of the draw, reach the semi-finals and then it is anyone’s to win.

If the Blues can come out of this month into the Quarterfinals of the FA Cup, with a good result in Paris leading into the second leg in March and higher up the Premier League table then I think Hiddink will be relatively pleased with that.
