After failing to complete a move during the winter transfer window, Chelsea FC’s Loic Remy is reportedly considering a switch to the burgeoning Chinese Super League.

Leicester City were reportedly on the verge of completing a club record £11.5 million deal for Loic Remy as the winter transfer window wound down. However, no such agreement materialised and the Frenchman continues to be a Chelsea player.

While British clubs may no longer be able to buy players until the summer, the Chinese window is open until the 26th February. According to the Evening Standard, Shanghai Shenhua are pushing for a £11 million deal to bring the striker to the buzzing Chinese Super League by the deadline.

"Big-spending Shanghai Shenhua and Hebei Fortune are both pushing to sign the striker before the transfer window closes in China on February 26. Shanghai are prepared to pay Chelsea £11million and give Remy a salary of £106,000-a-week."

Having said that, the report also states that any agreement will need to be closed in a relatively short period of time as Chelsea are waiting until after their impending cup clashes before making a decision on Remy’s future.

The Blues face Manchester City in FA Cup before taking on PSG in a first-leg Champions League tie. With the Premier League campaign dead in the water, the club have understandably switched focus onto these two competitions as they seek to salvage something from this wreckage.

As a result, encouraging results in these fixtures may necessitate that Remy remains at Stamford Bridge, with squad depth required as the games pile up.

After a 2014/15 season that saw him chip in with significant contributions, Remy has failed to kick on in this campaign. This has partly been down to Jose Mourinho’s reluctance to use him when Diego Costa was out of form, but also a consequence of extensive injury troubles restricting his availability.

January presented an ideal opportunity for the 29-year-old to start afresh at a new club, but several rumoured deals did not materialise. Now, after some high-profile moves involving in-demand Alex Teixeira and Chelsea’s own Ramires, Remy may become the next global attraction to the bizarre Chinese Super League.

Still under the age of 30, it is somewhat disheartening that he is not overly eager to spend a few more years at the top-level and prove to everyone just how good he can be. However, if anyone offered me £106,000 per week to do pretty much anything, I’d take it.

Remy, as much as he has shown himself to be a team player, may just be hoping for a pair of disappointing results in the next few weeks.
