Chelsea FC will attempt to keep the fans on their side this weekend by giving them free beer ahead of the clash against Newcastle United.

In a move that sounds like the kind of nonsense that I would come up with, Chelsea will be giving fans some free beer on Saturday afternoon in gratitude for putting up with the rubbish in this campaign.

This carries on a theme of Premier League clubs distributing free beer to their fans, with Leicester City doing the same at the end of 2015. However, the Foxes’ situation was rather different. The club’s Thai owners partnered with their official beer (also Singha) in order to celebrate what was a scintillating calendar year.

They were threatened with relegation in January, but a ridiculous run of form in the second half of the season saw them escape it. Leicester then carried their momentum into this campaign as they rocketed to the summit of English football.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are dishing out alcoholic beverages in a desperate attempt to reward the fans for sitting through some absolute sh*te in this season. An injury time equaliser from Diego Costa at the weekend saw the Blues remain in 13th place in the Premier League table. Chances of a top four spot are all but dead and with Manchester City and PSG awaiting in the FA Cup and Champions League respectively, a trophyless season is likely.

But all that will be forgotten this weekend as fans tuck into a distinctly mediocre lager from Thailand. Meanwhile, for those who don’t drink, or don’t fancy it, they will be able to take the edge of with a refreshing bottle of water.

That’s not all either! The Blues will be laying down some fireworks for the enjoyment of those in attendance. The officials have wisely taken the decision to put on the fireworks and light show before kick-off, as it will not be as exciting nor suitable after Chelsea lose.

EA Sports are also rocking up, with supporters afforded the opportunity play FIFA 16 outside in the cold, a nice change from the comfort of their living room.

Joking aside, it is nice to see the Blues actually take some steps in order to repay the incredible support that they have been somewhat unjustifiably afforded so far. No-one can call Chelsea fans plastic after this campaign.
