Chelsea FC have been handed another tricky FA Cup tie after being drawn against Everton for a quarter-final matchup.

Chelsea dispatched a weakened Manchester City team earlier this afternoon 5-1 as they secured their progression to the sixth round of the FA Cup. Shortly after the final whistle, the remaining teams learnt their quarter-final fate as the draw was made. The Blues have been handed a trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton.

While Manuel Pellegrini may not have been too fussed about this competition, Guus Hiddink and his squad are justifiably keen to triumph in it. This was reflected in the Dutchman’s strong squad selection for today’s clash and the ultimately clinical performance that saw Chelsea hit the back of the net five times.

After successfully negotiating this hurdle, the Blues will likely face sterner opposition in the next round. Everton have been somewhat disappointing so far this season, drawing a multitude of games and failing to kick on despite a wealth of talent in their ranks. However, their Premier League struggles would all be forgotten should Roberto Martinez be able to get a second FA Cup under his belt.

The Toffees have breezed through the tournament to this point. They have kept three clean sheets and scored seven goals, beating Dagenham and Redbridge, Carlisle United and Bournemouth 2-0, 3-0 and 2-0 respectively. Having being knocked out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage by Manchester City, the Merseyside outfit will undoubtedly be raring to go one step further in this competition.

With the tie taking place at Goodison Park, Chelsea will have to contend with an always vociferous Toffees crowd as well. Everton fans have been incredibly patient with a team that should certainly be higher than 11th and there is no reason why they can’t go all the way in this cup.

Hiddink, meanwhile, will be keen to ensure that his players can mirror the professionalism displayed in the Man City game. As the Blues slowly return to form, they should have the quality to outplay and outclass Everton. The FA Cup is the club’s only genuine shot at silverware and thus the tie has all the makings of a highly-charged affair.

Elsewhere in the draw, the winner of Monday night’s matchup between Shrewsbury Town and Manchester United will host Dimitri Payet and West Ham United. Should Arsenal emerge victorious from their replay with Hull City, they will set up an all-Premier League clash with Watford.
