Chelsea FC 5-1 Manchester City: Five Talking Points
4. Second Half Improvement
While Chelsea had begun to dominate the game midway through the first half, they had nothing to show for it as the game was tied at halftime. David Faupala’s goal had cancelled out Costa’s effort and gave the visitors a glimmer of hope that they could pull off an upset. This was a particularly dangerous position for the Blues, as City’s young side could play without restraints, and would likely throw everything they could at Chelsea.
The hosts responded by scoring two goals before City could even get a foothold again. Willian and Cahill powered Chelsea to a commanding 3-1 lead. With the combination of City’s match-squad and ambition, the 3-1 scoreline could be seen as enough to put the game out of reach. Hazard and Traore would then go and add two more, putting an emphatic stamp on the game. Chelsea fans will be pleased that the squad were able to finish off their pesky opponents in style.
