Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed a contract extension with Chelsea FC in a move that will ease the concerns of Blues fans everywhere.

Chelsea announced yesterday that youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed a new contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future. The midfielder is slowly being afforded more first-team opportunities and his elevated status is reflected in the deal.

The extension will see Loftus-Cheek committed to Chelsea through to 2021 as he puts Blues supporters at ease regarding a possible West London departure. Speaking to the official club website upon the formal announcement, the Englishman expressed his utter delight at putting pen to paper.

"I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Chelsea and my focus is on working hard in training every day in order to push on and establish myself in the team. It really means a lot because this shows the club believe in me so I’m really happy."

More chelsea fc: Reports: Chelsea FC Boss To Be Announced This Week

This news will undoubtedly put a smile on the faces of Blues fans everywhere. Loftus-Cheek has shown immense potential in the Chelsea shirt but some feared that he may push for an exit this summer. The 20-year-old has failed to be afforded a substantial number of opportunities in the first-team, even when the senior players were trotting out garbage during the first half of the campaign.

Onlookers were voraciously calling for Jose Mourinho, and to a lesser extent Guus Hiddink, to utilise the youngster more. However, Loftus-Cheek has only been thrown the odd cup appearance here and there. Given his evident quality, there have been murmurs that a frustration with his current status would lead to him considering his Stamford Bridge future.

Fortunately, he seems to have been convinced that the best place to be is in West London, which is likely in no small part to the club’s recent turnaround.

Chelsea’s decent form since Hiddink’s arrival has lifted the animal spirits of players and fans alike and Loftus-Cheek has evidently been encouraged by what the Blues officials have told him.

Furthermore, the interim boss has stated that he will be looking to give the midfielder some more game time in the coming weeks. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Norwich City later today, Hiddink lauded Loftus-Cheek’s development and confirmed that he will receive opportunities to impress in the immediate future.
