Yet another sensational rumour to fall off the mill, Chelsea FC will reportedly consider a Diego Costa swap deal as they look to rebuild the team over the summer.

As the season inches towards its conclusion, transfer rumours are once again returning to invade our lives. With Chelsea in the midst of contracting a permanent manager, the tabloids have not let up on linking them with a number of talented players. The latest story sees Diego Costa leave Stamford Bridge in a potential swap deal with Edinson Cavani.

The Daily Star pick up the report, originally by way of French outlet Le 10 Sport, as they claim that the Blues are open to considering such a deal in the summer.

"The Blues are willing to swap Diego Costa for Edinson Cavani, according to French website Le 10 Sport…And Roman Abramovich is so desperate to sign the Uruguayan, he’s willing to give up his first-choice striker."

Hmmmmmm.

Call me a cynic (seriously, do it, I am) but this is rubbish isn’t it? Silly season is no longer restricted to the transfer windows as journalists and publishing outlets across the world look to drive clicks.

I’ll leave the moaning, though, for your sake. So let’s take a brief look at this.

Diego Costa was awful for the first half of the campaign as he seemingly forgot how to play in the striker role. Stories regarding a struggle to integrate into life in London were followed by claims that he was ready to move back to Ateltico Madrid.

He has since miraculously turned his fortunes around with a scintillating scoring run since Jose Mourinho’s sacking. Nonetheless, many Blues fans are indifferent to the prospect of seeing his back in the summer and with Cavani reportedly looking for a PSG deaprture, this deal could be feasible.

There is still plenty of time before the summer transfer window opens so expect more stuff like this to do the rounds, especially with Chelsea’s strongly advised rebuild on the cards.
