Everton 2-0 Chelsea FC: 5 Talking Points
1. Chelsea’s Last Hope?
After the disappointing loss midweek in the UEFA Champions League, the Blues looked to throw all their weight into the FA Cup. Manager Guus Hiddink lead the Londoners to FA Cup glory in 2009 (against Everton ironically) and places a huge importance on the competition.
Considering salvaging a top four league finish is unlikely, this would be Chelsea’s chance to not only win a cup competition, but earn a direct qualification for European play next season, regardless of where they finish in the league table.
Kenedy would get the start at left back again, and Nemanja Matic would try to regain his form, starting in defensive midfield next to John Obi Mikel. There were also two more welcome sights for Chelsea fans. Diego Costa would lead the line; the forward had been injured during the week and was a question to start. John Terry would also return to the first team, albeit from the bench.
