3. Everton Press Pays Off

Under Roberto Martinez, Everton have been known to play a more pressing, attacking style of football. Especially at Goodison Park, the Toffees fly to the ball and try to put their opponents under as much pressure as they possibly can. That style of play is risky against a Chelsea side that have quality on the counter, but the hosts executed their gameplan almost perfectly en route to their victory.

Chelsea players were under constant pressure throughout the match, and never really had much space to run into or pick a pass. There were times in which Cesc Fabregas had opportunities to run at the defense, but for the most part the Blues were suffocated. With the visitors being unable to hit on the counter, Everton reaped the benefits of their gameplan.
