Radamel Falcao has revealed that he turned down a couple of lucrative offers from the Chinese Super League in order to fight for a place at Chelsea FC.

Amidst accusations of greed and selfishness on behalf of professional footballers, Radamel Falcao has proven himself to be a beacon of light. The Chelsea striker has confirmed that he did in fact turn down offers from China in order to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place.

Speaking to Colombian outlet El Tiempo, Falcao stated that he wanted to give himself one last shot at mixing it at the top level.

"It is true that I had two different offers to move to China, but I stayed in England to give myself another opportunity. Going there would have been the easiest way out because it was a great offer, but I preferred to stay here and fight. – via The Independent"

Usually, I would hold him up as a noble man, a type of football player that we no longer see in the Premier League. This time, though, I’ll call him a moron.

He has been nothing but useless so far this season. Given how poorly proceedings have gone for the Blues, that is saying a lot. Through a combination of poor form and injury troubles, Falcao has rarely been available and seldom used on the occasions that he was.

While there is something impressive about his desire to fight for a place, his cause has been all but lost for some time now. With the lucrative offers on the table, there are few people who would have criticised a switch.

Having said that, these offers will probably come again once the summer transfer window opens and thus you can understand his sentiment. Chelsea’s season is now completely dead and, as a result, Guus Hiddink may choose to employ some of the more underused talents in the squad.

This will predominantly refer to youngsters and academy prospects, but there may well be scope to afford Falcao some game time.

If he truly is keen on staying at the top level, he must be ready to seize any opportunity that he receives. The Blues will not be renewing his loan or making his deal permanent and thus the Colombian should use whatever minutes he gets in order to impress other onlooking clubs.

I may have ridiculed him, but we must admit that his attitude is indeed admirable. Consequently, Chelsea fans should do nothing but wish him all the best as he attempts to resurrect his career in the next few weeks.
