Interim Chelsea FC manager Guus Hiddink has continued to dodge questions regarding Alexandre Pato after he was once again not used on Saturday afternoon.

Alexandre Pato continued his fantastic scam as he was once again an unused player during Chelsea FC’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United. The striker has managed to earn a ridiculous amount of money for close to two months now without stepping onto the field.

The situation has been somewhat farcical, with Pato currently set to leave Stamford Bridge at the expiration of his loan deal this summer. At the moment, it seems as though the Brazilian will head home without having a single minute of first-team football under his belt. Hiddink opted not use him yesterday and continued to provide insufficient justification for it.

"When Costa is not there we have Remy, we also have Traore and Pato. They are competing for the second spot. I make my judgement on what we see.Loftus-Cheek is strong, can penetrate and he can play physically and technically well, which he showed. You have to make a choice on who to bring on. – via chelseafc.com"

What?

Pato was brought in during the winter transfer window in order to provide cover for a depleted striking department. Playing over in Brazil, he had been enjoying his offseason at the time of the deal and thus it was understandable that he would need a couple of weeks to get up to match speed.

However, it has now been nearly two months and he has still failed to play a second of competitive football.

The interim boss was questioned about the situation before the game. Given that the season is dead and buried, Hiddink was asked whether Pato would be afforded more time. He stated that the striker would hopefully be used more after the international break.

Pato has featured on the bench in recent weeks and was named in the matchday squad yesterday afternoon. Nevertheless, he has always been overlooked when it comes to making the changes.

Hiddink appears to state that the youngsters are more deserving of a chance instead. While this is somewhat true, Pato’s status as a six-month loanee justifies his use in some capacity at least.

An evidently talented player, the Brazilian would have hoped to have proven his quality on the world stage having lost his way in recent years. Furthermore, the fact that he is still only 26-years-old makes him a potential signing for next season.

Having said that, this would only be possible if the Blues could judge the quality that he currently possesses. Sitting on the sidelines has hindered that.

There are a few games left in the season and Chelsea fans will be expecting to see the Brazilian enjoy some minutes in his audition for a full-time role.
