1. First team debuts

Alexandre Pato, Matt Miazga and Jake Clarke-Salter all made their first team debuts as Chelsea players. Pato celebrated the occasion with a goal in first half stoppage time. Miazga played a controlled game in central defense, while Clarke-Salter was able to get his feet wet with a 15 minute cameo.

With the Blues not competing for any cups or UEFA Champions League qualification, Hiddink had the ability to work in some new faces. A criticism of Jose Mourinho, and later Hiddink as well, was that the managers failed to rotate the squad properly. With relatively little pressure on the team from here until the end of the season, more youngsters and fringe players will likely be given an opportunity to showcase their skills.
