3. Sergio Aguero v Branislav Ivanovic
The matchup between Sergio Aguero and Branislav Ivanovic will likely be the deciding factor in tomorrow’s contest. Gary Cahill is fit again and may replace Matt Miazga, but John Terry isn’t and thus the Serbian will probably be in the centre of defence.
Aguero, no matter the wealth of talent that runs around behind him, is the key man for City. His pace and skill enables him to single-handedly win games for Pellegrini when his colleagues seemingly cannot be bothered to help. His finishing is also lethal, meaning that few chances are needed.
Ivanovic will have his hands full against the Argentinian. Having been moved back to the central role which he used to play much earlier in his career, the veteran has looked markedly more comfortable. His lack of pace and waning skill has been better masked in the middle.
Having said that, this is arguably his biggest test so far and his performance will do much to determine his feasibility in the slot moving into next season. With Terry set to leave the club, Ivanovic could be the man charged with taking over the leadership role from the heart of defence.
