Charly Musonda’s possible loan extension at Real Betis is worrying news for Chelsea FC fans as they await the arrival of new boss Antonio Conte.
With Antonio Conte taking over the Stamford Bridge hotseat next season, a major overhaul is expected at Chelsea FC. As this disappointing campaign reaches its end, several Blues players could be moved on over the summer to make way for the next generation. However, Charly Musonda is set to be kept away from any immediate plans.
In quotes taken from Real Betis club president Angel Haro, the Spaniards are seemingly closing in on a deal to keep him for another season.
"We have had meetings with Chelsea and the player’s family that are going on the right track…The feelings we have drawn from these meetings are quite positive. – via the Express"
Should Musonda be sent out again, this could be a concerning indication of what may lie ahead. Fans are desperate for Conte to take the club into a new era, with calls for the younger talent to be at the centre of the Italian’s thoughts.

The 19-year-old has been identified as one of the most precocious players in the system. Musonda has impressed in his 12 La Liga appearances for Betis, with 11 of them coming as starts. The fact that the club are so keen on retaining him is further evidence in favour of his exciting potential.
As a result, it would be disappointing if he is not able to squeeze his way into first-team plans at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s midfield depth is currently lacking and it may even become non-existent should rumoured moves regarding John Obi Mikel and Nemanja Matic materialise. As a result, there is a glaring opportunity for the likes of Musonda and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to be exposed to significant Premier League minutes.
It should be stated that this complaint would not exist if the story was about another ordinary player. Musonda, though, is widely considered as one of the best youngsters to come through the youth levels and his La Liga stint this season has shown that he is ready to make the senior squad leap.
Any transfer dealings that take place from this point forward will undoubtedly have the blessing of Conte. Hence, an extension to the Belgian’s loan will be a worrying sign.
Of course, the incoming boss will likely look to the transfer market in a bid to inject some proven world-class ability into the squad. However, the consequent suggestion that he will largely build his team upon imported players is not what fans want to hear.
Roman Abramovich has always craved a long-term dynasty similar to what Sir Alex Ferguson curated at Manchester United. After failing to succeed in the managerial department, the club are faced with a perfect opportunity to do so with their players.

Conte needs to place faith in his most promising young talent in order to build a new core that will carry Chelsea for the next decade or so. This news of a Musonda extension is an indication that he is not prepared to.
