Speaking ahead of Chelsea FC’s huge Premier League clash with Tottenham, John Obi Mikel has stated that the team want to use this game to make a statement to the fans.

As Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur close in on kick-off, John Obi Mikel has stated that the Blues players are desperate to make a statement to the fans. Leicester City supporters will also be happy to hear this, with a draw or home victory handing the Foxes the Premier League title.

Having been tasked with dealing with pre-match tunnel interview duties, the Nigerian spoke about the importance of winning this game. After making Blues fans suffer from absolute tripe throughout the campaign, Mikel recognised what a win over their bitter rivals would mean.

According to many Chelsea fans, Tottenham represent the club they loathe most. There is nothing quite like a crosstown rivalry and the one between these two London outfits brings a level of animosity and emotion that can match any in the world.

However, the stakes have been further raised this time. Mauricio Pochettino’s men need to take all three points from Stamford Bridge in order to keep their title hopes alive. If they drop points tonight, there will be huge celebrations in Leicester (and wherever Claudio Ranieri is) as they are finally confirmed as champions of England.

After a dire season, Chelsea fans want nothing less than to ruin Spurs’ Premier League challenge. Judging by Mikel’s comments, the players seem to be of a similar mindset.

This game will also provide some individuals with their last opportunity of the season to show their class against quality opposition. Games against Liverpool and Leicester City are still to come, but both of those teams may not care about the fixture by the time kick-off calls. Jurgen Klopp’s side have already given up on Premier League games, as evidenced by their 3-1 loss against Swansea City.
