It’s often said that if you want to climb a high fence that you should start by throwing your hat on the other side of it. The concept of this idiom, of course, rests upon on rather dodgy logic that assumes that you care enough about that silly fedora to hoist yourself over to get it back.

When Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard went public with their desire to stop Harry Kane and his pack of ‘hunting lions’ in their pursuit of fairytale Leicester City (thereby assuring the Foxes’ the Premier League title) I honestly thought the pair of them were having a laugh. But now it’s obvious that they had thrown over something of great value to them, and were determined to get it back.
