Chelsea FC midfield great Frank Lampard was booed by the New York City FC fans when he came on during their MLS match against New York Red Bulls.
He is not used to this. In a far cry from the days in which Chelsea FC fans would bow down to him, their New York City FC counterparts do not feel the same. Frank Lampard was roundly booed by those in attendance when he was brought on during an eventual 7-0 defeat at the hands of local rivals New York Red Bulls.
Ouch.
Here’s the actual footage.
Lampard left Chelsea at the end of the 2013/14 season, joining the new MLS franchise. There was then some controversy as he was loaned to Premier League rivals Manchester City and was further retained, meaning that he missed the start of the MLS campaign.
The Englishman has since played minimal football for New York. In two seasons he has turned out just 11 times. Lampard has struggled with various injuries, but many have called his commitment into question as well. Frustrations boiled over during the derby as fans vocally chastised the veteran.
This is the sort of scenario that you would never expect to be associated with Lampard, especially with regard to commitment.
Nevertheless, the New York fans have been justified in their anger with the initial promise of seeing Lampard on a regular basis being far from held. Furthermore, the poor results of the outfit have not helped. A 7-0 thrashing at the hands of their neighbours is unacceptable. The rivalry is barely two years old but the New York fans have taken their club to heart in swift fashion. and thus there is genuine animosity between the clubs.

As he makes his return from yet another niggle, hopefully Lampard will be able to make amends with the Yankee Stadium faithful. If not, there would certainly be a coaching spot available at Stamford Bridge should he want an exit.
