Chelsea transfer news and rumours continue to flow with the Blues linked with another bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The transfer rumour mill churns on as we approach the summer window. The latest story sees Chelsea preparing a fresh bid for Kalidou Koulibaly as Antonio Conte seeks to strengthen his defence. The Blues have reportedly had one offer rejected already.

The Express picks up the rumour from Italian sources as they claim that the new Chelsea boss is intent on securing the Napoli defender.

"Chelsea will now make a second attempt to secure a transfer…That is according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim a £23.3million (€30m) bid would be enough to bring Napoli to the table."

The Blues are set for a summer of much action after an appalling campaign. The defence is an area of particular concern with an ageing talent pool showing their frailties.

John Terry has been retained for a further season, but he is unlikely to have a huge playing role next season. Gary Cahill, meanwhile, does not have time on his side either while Kurt Zouma will miss the start of the campaign as he recovers from his knee injury.

The likes of Matt Miazga and Jake Clarke-Salter have tasted first-team football, but Conte will be looking for a more established star to take up a spot in the starting eleven.

Koulibaly has enjoyed a breakout season. His 32 Serie A starts helped Napoli to second position while the club also maintained the second meanest defence. At the age of 24, there is significant interest from a host of European clubs but he will not come cheap.

As Napoli looked to make an impact and progress in the Champions League next term, they will be keen to retain their best players. This story claims that a bid just over £20 million would be sufficient, but don’t be surprised if a successful offer is worth much more.

It is yet unclear the extent of the funds that will be at Conte’s disposal. The failings of the last 10 months and the lack of Champions League revenue will hit Chelsea’s coffers. Furthermore, it would take a lucrative offer to convince Koulibaly to give up European football for the unstable surroundings of Stamford Bridge.
