Day three of the Copa America 2016 saw heartache for Jamaica and a convincing win for Mexico. There are two more fixtures taking place tonight as well.

There was some great action from the United States on Sunday evening as Jamaica, Venezuela, Mexico and Uruguay kicked off their respective Copa America 2016 campaigns.

In the first game, Jamaica and Venezuela squared off in a match that ended 1-0 to the favourites. The fact that the former were reduced to ten men did not help their cause.

Jamaica started well and hit the woodwork just after the 10 minute mark. Venezuela’s Josef Martinez, though, made no mistake as he put his team ahead in the 16th minute.

It was a great team move capped by a great finish.

Chelsea defender Michael Hector started the game but he did not have the best of days for Jamaica. He was eventually withdrawn in the 77th minute after a display that made many Blues fans question the wisdom behind signing him.

More from The Pride of London

Hector was bought last summer before being immediately sent back to Reading on loan. The indications from this performance suggest that fans should not hold their breath regarding an appearance for the Chelsea first team.

In Sunday’s other fixture, Mexico defeated Uruguay 3-1. The scoreline flattered the victors, as two goals were scored late on.

Mexico were gifted a goal four minutes after kick-off, with Alvaro Pereira diverting the ball into his own net. Onlookers then had to wait until the 74th minute for the contest’s next score. Diego Godin used his head to tie it all up.

Ten minutes later, Mexico took the lead again through a thunderous Rafael Marquez strike.

Hector Herrera then rubbed salt into the wounds in stoppage time to secure the win.

Tonight, there are two more games although no Chelsea players are involved. Panama and Bolivia face off at 7pm ET, 12am BST from the Orlando Citrus Bowl.

Argentina and Chile do battle three hours later in what could be one of the games of the tournament. Taking place in the mammoth Levi’s Stadium, two of the best teams in the competition will meet.

Unfortunately for the neutral, Lionel Messi may not start as he nurses a minor injury. However, he is due to be available for a cameo should Argentina require it.
