Chelsea officially confirmed that youngster Charly Musonda will head back to Real Betis on loan next season. Other players are also linked with a switch.

Charly Musonda has officially been loaned out to Real Betis for the entirety of 2016/17 season. This move comes after a baffling delay on the club’s part to complete the deal. Betis’ management had even gone on record stating their unrest over the state of the deal, reportedly held up due to Antonio Conte’s involvement in Euro 2016.

There was very little chance that Conte would have earmarked Musonda for a role in the first team especially in a season that is so crucial to both the club and the manager. Meanwhile, Betis and Musonda were making very positive noises about each other and a quick deal for him to return and complete his development looked like the best move for all parties.

However, the board seem to be interested in getting more out of this relationship with Betis. There have been rumours that the club have offered Betis up to 10 players to choose from to take on loan and the Chelsea board may have wanted to use Musonda as a makeweight.

It is highly possible that more players will follow Musonda but Betis have successfully managed to get the man they want.

More from The Pride of London

Among the names being touted as potential candidates for a loan to Betis is Jeremie Boga. Boga was expected to return to Rennes where he had a decent season, but most of his playing time came from the bench. Rennes sold their star player Ousmane Dembele to Dortmund and were reportedly desperate to make a deal with Chelsea for Boga

However, that deal seems to be dead in water as Rennes have hired a new manager and it is possible that Chelsea and the player have decided to try their luck in La Liga.

Other names linked to Betis are Dominic Solanke and Patrick Bamford, both center-forwards looking to make an impact at the top level. Its not the first time that we have linked up with clubs from other leagues to form a mutually beneficial association and it won’t be the last time.

Clubs know we have excellent talent in our ranks and are willing to get in on the action to get access to a player that they wouldn’t normally be able to afford. Vitesse have followed this model for a few years now and are sometimes endearingly or derisively (depending on where you stand) called Chelsea B.

While Betis may not be able to do it to such an extent, due to the restrictions on loan deals between clubs in Spain, they may still take a player or two from Chelsea and this could potentially become a regular thing.

In other news, Borussia Mönchengladbach have once again professed their desire to make Andreas Christensen’s temporary loan move permanent. Apparently they’re willing to pay the price and make him their record signing.

This is hardly surprising given that Gladbach will want to cash in on developing a prospect like Christensen who has very high resale value in the current market.

However, from a Chelsea perspective, the move would be unwise to put it mildly. Even though the temptation of a lucrative early pay out with options to buyback is high, the current status quo is much more desirable to us than the money we get.

As things stand, Christensen is set to join the club at the end of 2016/17 season and has reportedly already been earmarked for a first team role. If we make this deal, things may get complicated like they are now with Alvaro Morata and Real Madrid and we may not be able to fight off interest from other big clubs.
