Chelsea have opened discussions with Real Madrid with regard to signing Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, according to the latest reports.

Alvaro Morata’s future continues to be subject to heavy speculation with the latest report claiming that Chelsea have opened talks with Real Madrid. The Spanish side confirmed that they had exercised the player’s buy-back clause but they are set to sell him on before the start of next season.

The Independent reports that the Blues have begun negotiating with Real with regard to the player, as they seek to reinforce their strikeforce.

"Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign Alvaro Morata after Real Madrid executed a buy-back option in the Spaniard’s Juventus contract with the intention of selling him on for profit."

The striker has impressed since leaving the Santiago Bernabeu for Juventus two seasons ago. His goalscoring record has not been outstanding (just under 30 goals in the two years), but his skillset has attracted the eye of many European clubs.

After a woeful 2015/16 campaign, Chelsea are set for a major overhaul during the summer transfer window. Diego Costa appears to be the only striker from last season staying at Stamford Bridge and thus the Blues will be busy recruiting in that department.

Alvaro Morata has impressed thoroughly during Euro 2016, hitting the back of the net three times in the group stages. Real Madrid are looking to capitalise on the buzz that surrounds impressive performances at a world tournament.

It is thought that Morata will demand as much as £30 million but Chelsea are seemingly keen to part with that amount. At the age of 23, there are few other strikers that promise what Morata does in the long run.

However, such a fee will eat into the club’s resources for the summer. Chelsea require players across the field and thus there may be some wisdom in digging deeper to find cheaper talent.
