Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a move for Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shenawy with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begovic.

The transfer rumour mill continues to churn out stories regarding potential Chelsea moves. The latest report claims that the Blues are considering a bid for Ahmed El-Shenawy as they weigh up their goalkeeping situation.

The Sun is the source of the rumour, as it reports that Antonio Conte will eye the Egyptian as a potential number two behind Thibaut Courtois.

"If Courtois stays, Conte needs a No2 as Asmir Begovic wants regular first-team football. El-Shenawy has emerged as an option after his form for Zamalek and his national team."

The story also indicates that the incoming Chelsea boss is willing to listen to offers for the Belgian number one.

Thibaut Courtois endured a difficult campaign last time out, with poor performances accompanying injury and rumours of discontent. As a result, he may be on his way out this summer.

Asmir Begovic, meanwhile, enjoyed some first team football when Courtois was absent, but he is simply too good of a goalkeeper to play second fiddle.

Ahmed El-Shenawy has been plying his trade for Egyptian Premier League outfit Zamalek over the last few seasons. His impressive displays have afforded him a multitude of caps for the Egypt national side.

Given the league in which he plays, many Blues fans may not know much about El-Shenawy. However, with Chelsea’s extensive scouting base, he has caught the eye as a potential backup goalkeeper.

At the age of 25, he certainly has many years left on the clock. Furthermore, he should come at a very reasonable price.

Chelsea are in dire need of reinforcements across the field and thus being able to fill the second goalkeeping spot cheaply is beneficial.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops, especially with regard to Courtois. The Belgian has undoubted quality but this past year has raised doubts over his ability to consistently perform.
