Euro 2016 moved on to the Round of 16 on Saturday, with tight games and drama everywhere. Tonight, a few Chelsea stars take centre stage for Belgium.
The knockout stage of Euro 2016 is upon us as the road to Paris reaches its business end. Three games took place on Saturday, with Poland and Switzerland facing off in a penalty shoot-out, Portugal leaving it late and Wales moving on.
The first fixture of the day saw Poland hold Switzerland over 120 minutes. Poland took the lead through Jakub Błaszczykowski after a fast counter-attack.
Switzerland were kept off the scoresheet for the majority of the contest, before a moment of absolute brilliance drew them level.
Xherdan Shaqiri stepped up in the 82nd minute to equalise with a stunning overhead kick from the edge of the box.
Goal of the tournament? Probably.
The game would head into extra time with the score at 1-1. Nothing would change the situation during the additional 30 minutes as the first knockout fixture of Euro 2016 went the distance.
In a miss that will provide football fans with more ammunition to berate Arsenal supporters with, new signing Granit Xhaka blasted the ball well wide of the post. It would be the only miss of the shoot-out. Poland are in the quarter-finals.
The second game of the day saw two home nations face off at a major tournament. Wales qualified at the top of their group, while Northern Ireland just about squeezed through.
In another tight affair, it took a unique moment to settle the contest. West Brom defender Gareth McAuley was the unfortunate victim as he inadvertently diverted a cross into his own net.
The evening game saw Portugal square off with Croatia. In a game that failed to entertain many onlookers, Portugal relied on Ricardo Quaresma to come up trumps in the 117th minute to secure their passage to the quarter-finals.
Moments after Ivan Perisic hit the post for Croatia, a quick counter-attack featuring Renato Sanches, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo resulted in Quaresma converting a rebound to give Portugal the last-gasp victory.
There are another three fixtures on Sunday. Hosts France take on Ireland in the 2pm BST kick-off. Germany and Slovakia then square off in the tea-time game before Belgium clash with Hungary.
