It’s official, Michy Batshuayi is now a Chelsea FC player. However, speaking at the unveiling, the forward tried to play down comparisons with Didier Drogba.

In a transfer story that moved remarkably quickly, Michy Batshuayi was unveiled as a Chelsea player on Sunday. The forward becomes the first senior squad signing of the Antonio Conte era. While many have talked of him being the next Didier Drogba, he was keen to play down comparisons with the Ivorian.

Speaking to the official club website, Batshuayi was asked about the other striker who came over from Marseille.

"Didier Drogba is a Chelsea legend and, like yourself, joined the club from Marseille. Are you confident you can enjoy similar success here?We are different people, I totally respect the career Didier had at Chelsea and I am going to do my best."

Michy Batshuayi admitted that his English isn’t great, but it seems as though he was trying to dismiss the comparisons.

More from The Pride of London

Football enthusiasts familiar with the Belgian’s game have claimed that he could be the next incarnation of Didier Drogba. His impressive stature, coupled with decent speed, mean that he is being anointed as the King’s successor.

However, it would probably be in everyone’s best interest to refrain from such debate. Romelu Lukaku was the last player to be given the tag and it certainly did not help him. Of course, the lack of first team football meant that he was unable to truly showcase his talent, but the burden of being Drogba’s next coming weighed heavily on his young shoulders.

Fortunately for Lukaku, he has got back on track and is developing into one of Europe’s leading strikers with Everton.

Bearing that in mind, it would be great to see Batshuayi fulfill his potential and forge his own name in Chelsea blue. Didier Drogba was one of the club’s finest strikers and likely a player that will never be imitated.

Batshuayi, though, has all the tools to become of the world’s best and he must be free from nonsense expectations for this to happen.

Without this burden, the 22-year-old will be able to carry on the path that has many Chelsea fans salivating at his arrival. In the little game-time that he was afforded at Euro 2016, Batshuayi excelled, and he even hit the back of the net.

Hopefully, with or without Diego Costa, the youngster will be able to take the Premier League by storm next season. Having said that, fans must not get on his back should he take some time to settle in.
