Assistant first-team coach Angelo Alessio

Angelo Alessio and Antonio Conte played together as midfielders at Juventus in 1991-92. The two arrived at Siena in Italy’s Serie B in July 2010, with Conte being appointed manager and Alessio his assistant manager. The two maintained this arrangement the following year when they moved to Juventus, and then again to the Italian national team before coming to Chelsea FC.

Alessio and Conte were both caught up in the Siena match-fixing scandal, in which Conte was accused of not reporting an attempted match-fixing in 2011. The investigation expanded to include over 100 defendants, with Conte and Alessio being the most prominent.

Conte proclaimed his innocence with the expected level of #passion:

"I consider a plea-bargain blackmail. I’m an innocent person yet I’m told by my lawyer to plea-bargain. It’s embarrassing. They have ruined my credibility in the changing room. Those people who know me know what type of person Antonio Conte is… They believe the word of someone who has been selling games for three-and-a-half years! – Goal"

An Italian judge cleared both men of wrong-doing in May 2016, facilitating their involvement at Euro 2016.
