Frank Lampard proved on Saturday that he still has his lethal goalscoring touch as the former Chelsea man bagged a hat-trick for New York City FC.
Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer, Frank Lampard, can’t stop scoring. The Englishman hit the back of the net three times on Saturday afternoon as New York City FC dismantled Colorado Rapids 5-1.
The first goal was reminiscent of one a striker would have in his repertoire. With the ball bounding about and eventually out to the wing, Lampard ensured he was in the danger zone. It then found its way into the six-yard box and the former Chelsea man was there to turn it in.

The second Frank Lampard goal (and New York’s fourth) was a beautiful move. The midfielder carried the ball out of his own box to spark the counter-attack. Fellow Englishman, Jack Harrison, then dribbled it towards the opposition area before sliding it back into a marauding Lampard. He then applied a neat finish to send the ball into the back of the net.

To top it all off, Lampard stepped up to take a penalty to secure the match ball. Former Premier League alumnus Tim Howard was unable to stop the strike as Lampard added NYCFC’s fifth and wrote his name into the history books. Frank Lampard is the first person in NYCFC history to score a hat-trick.

The Chelsea great has come in for a lot of criticism since making the jump across the pond. Much of this was his own making (think the Manchester City debacle), but he seems to be finally turning the tide.
With eight goals in 11 games, he has helped propel NYCFC to the top of the Eastern Conference, where they now sit in full confidence of going far in the play-offs.
Evidently, Frank Lampard still has a bit left in the tank. However, Chelsea fans will be more than eager to see him back at Stamford Bridge in a coaching capacity sometime soon. Right?
