Chelsea FC endured their second defeat in pre-season at the hands of an aggressive and youthful Real Madrid. The first half was marred by defensive frailties and a lack of attacking penetration which resulted in the Spanish juggernaut taking a 3-0 lead.

Real Madrid’s Marcelo bossed the first half by scoring a brace and embarrassed the Chelsea defence who were out of ideas. Youth product Mariano stunned the crowd with a 30-yard wonder strike.

The Blues made the score more respectable in the second half through a brace by Eden Hazard. The West Londoners looked a better team with the introductions of the Belgian duo of Hazard and Michy Batshuayi but ended the match with a 3-2 defeat.

Let’s take a look at the key takeaways from the game.
