Ruben Loftus-Cheek – Barrett Rouen

Chelsea’s time in the ICC (International Champions Cup) continues this week with a game against AC Milan. One thing that will be interesting is to see how Ruben Loftus-Cheek lines up. It would be kind to say that Ruben Loftus-Cheek was awful in his first few games but to be fair to him he was played grossly out of position by Antonio Conte.

Last season, the Englishman was deployed at times as a number 10 and he said that even playing that far up the field was uncomfortable. He is a defensive midfielder. That is where he should play. After some poor performances up top, it remains to be seen whether he will make an appearance further back or continue his adventures leading the line. The latter could pave the way for N’Golo Kante to turn out for the first time in blue this preseason.

Kante will most likely make an appearance in this match at some point, though, and it will be interesting to see if he and Ruben Loftus-Cheek get to team up in the middle of the field. Now that Chelsea have a large amount of their players back and ready for selection Antonio Conte’s team selection will give increasingly larger hints about his preferred eleven.
