Tammy Abraham is the latest youngster to join the 2015/16 edition of Chelsea’s loan army. He will ply his trade with Bristol City this season.

The army is slowly taking shape. After a summer break, the recruits are returning as Chelsea continue their quest to conquer the world, one loan at a time. Tammy Abraham is the latest youngster to be sent to the front line.

The club confirmed the deal this morning as the striker heads out to seek regular football in the rebranded EFL Championship.

"Tammy Abraham has today joined Bristol City on a season-long loan…Abraham joins the Championship side as they start their season tomorrow at home to Wigan Athletic."

This deal is likely to draw a mixed response from Chelsea fans. Tammy Abraham certainly was in need of a loan as he simply would not receive the game time he requires at Stamford Bridge. However, the fact that he is taking a step down to the Championship will raise some concerns.

We, at The Pride Of London, have already drawn abuse from Bristol City fans after claiming that Abraham deserves better. There is justification to this argument.

More from The Pride of London

At the age of 18, Abraham needs to be testing himself against quality opposition on a weekly basis. You only have to look at Andreas Christensen to see how jumping in a deeper pool can yield significant rewards.

The Premier League is exciting, but the standard is widely acknowledged to be poor. Hence stepping one further rung down is not particularly helpful for the development of a player who has the potential to be a serious talent.

Furthermore, the top players make an impact at this sort of age. Abraham will not be able to do the same in the second tier.

However, regular football is ultimately what he needs and he should get that much at Bristol City. The youngster knows what he must do in order to see his career progress. With Antonio Conte at the helm, the general feeling is that those players who impress will be rightly rewarded.
