Frank Lampard has confirmed that he hopes to be a part of Chelsea once he hangs up his boots, noting that he would be honoured to have a role.
In a feature with New York City FC’s website, Frank Lampard sits down to answer questions posed on Twitter by fans. Responding to a question about his goals following retirement, Lampard expressed his desire to be back at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea.
This was the question that was asked.
And the transcript of the response:
"I’ll always be back at Chelsea in some way. I’m not sure if I’ll have a role there, that’s up to the club. I would be very honoured if I was offered one. Whether I do or I don’t, I’ll always be regularly coming back to watch games at Chelsea because I have such a strong link and a bond with the club."
After a shaky start in Major League Soccer, Frank Lampard has experienced a revival in recent months. NYCFC fans are now strongly behind the Chelsea great and he seems to be thoroughly enjoying his football as well.
However, when the time comes to hang up his boots (it can’t be far off now), Chelsea fans will be delighted to hear about his wish to return. Other footballers may choose to kick back and relax somewhere on the West coast of America, but Lampard knows where his home is.
Of course, there have been no discussions over a retirement role with the Blues just yet, but the offer is certain to come. As one of England’s greatest midfielders and one of Chelsea’s favourite sons, hiring Lampard can only be beneficial.
Allowing youngsters to tap into his wealth of experience and allowing more seasoned pros to gain high-level insight from one of the best is an opportunity that cannot be missed.
Lampard has not outlined any firm plans regarding retirement thus far, but how excited are you by his comments? What is the most important thing you think he will bring to Stamford Bridge?
