With transfer deadline day approaching, Chelsea are yet to fill the numerous holes currently in their squad. The floundering has implications for the youngsters and fringe players.

Transfer deadline day is under a week away and Chelsea are far from ready for the 2015/16 campaign. The Blues desperately need reinforcements at the back but they have failed to address the problems thus far. Another consequence of this floundering is being felt by some of the more fringe Blues players.

Transfer Watch: Marcelo Brozovic would strengthen Chelsea’s midfield

After spending the last month or so chasing Kalidou Koulibaly, the prospect of striking a deal with Napoli appears dead in the water. They have since moved on to the likes of Marcos Alonso and Nikola Maksimovic, but are struggling to make any material progress.

Lost amongst all this transfer talk are the likes of Matt Miazga and Kenedy. The duo have seemingly no role in Antonio Conte’s squad this season but a loan away has not been sorted either.

Evidently, the club are reluctant to send them off before they can secure arrivals. Without new acquisitions, Miazga and Kenedy would likely be required as backup.

Goal even claims that the two have agreements in place with Premier League clubs. However, the transfer fumbling has prevented Chelsea from confirming the deals.

"Chelsea’s inability to sign defenders has resulted in delays to outgoing loan moves for their young defenders Kenedy and Matt Miazga, who both have offers from Premier League clubs including Watford."

Much has been said about Chelsea’s ineptitude in the negotiating room. The bulk of discussion has surrounded the club’s prospects for this season and whether they will be able to regain Champions League football. The fates of fringe squad members is an important factor that is not given just attention.

Uncertainty is one of the worst facets of life. Those players who do not feature in Conte’s first team plans and have not been loaned out yet are embroiled in uncertainty at the moment.

Moreover, the next few days will determine whether they enjoy a fruitful campaign on the playing field, or a wasted one in the corridors of Cobham

Miazga and Kenedy must be even more frustrated given that Premier League clubs are willing to take them. They have an opportunity to receive regular playing time in the top flight of English football in front of their eyes. The bumbling of Michael Emenalo and friends are preventing them from taking it.

Whatever happens in the next week, you can safely say that Chelsea have once again messed up a transfer window. Let’s just hope that the ramifications aren’t as significant as they were last time.
