Chelsea defeated Hull City on Saturday in a performance that will bring relief to Blues fans. Let’s break down some of player stats from the contest.

After two consecutive Premier League losses, Antonio Conte changed the system for Saturday’s clash with Hull City. The formation delivered the goods as Chelsea won 2-0 and put in an encouraging performance. Let’s break down some of the player stats and analyse some individual displays.

Diego Costa

3 shots (all on target), 3 chances created (including a sumptuous back flick to Willian), 1 goal‎ & 1 assist… Diego Costa’s key contributions against Hull City in summary. He has now contributed to 8 of Chelsea’s 12 Premier League goals (6 goals and 2 assists) so far. Long may it continue!

Victor Moses

Victor Moses’ much lauded display in an unfamiliar wing-back role gave cause for optimism. His willingness to hug the touchline helped stretch play and his ability to dribble in or out makes him difficult to stop in full flow, leading to fouls. He completed 4 dribbles, 2 tackles and was second to N’Golo Kante in the number of touches. His decision making in the final third needs to improve, though.

Marcos Alonso

In his first start for Chelsea, Marcos Alonso put in a decent, if unspectacular, display at left wing-back. He provided an extra body in the attacking third, as evidenced by his 4 chances created ‎and 4 shots (both match-high figures). He did not shriek his defensive duties either, making 3 tackles, 3 interceptions and 2 clearances. He was a bit slow reacting to several runs from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa.

N’Golo Kante

N’Golo Kante was at his imperious best! His widely-praised box-to-box ability was on display, especially during one fantastic mazy run late in the second half, which was a testament to his impressive stamina. ‎He was tidy in distribution, completing 89 percent of his match-high 79 passes, while making 4 interceptions and 13 ball recoveries to help start counter attacks. His shooting needs a whole lot of work though!

Cesar Azpilicueta

Despite playing in an unfamiliar role as one of three centre-backs, Cesar Azpilicueta delivered a more assured display than both Gary Cahill and David Luiz. He was on hand to mop up another poor Cahill clearance in the second half and constantly hassled every Hull City player in sight. ‎He made 2 tackles, 2 interceptions and 3 clearances while making 66 passes (second only to Kante), completing 82 percent.
