Michy Batshuayi has been subject to some bizarre transfer speculation in recent days. The striker has been linked with a move away from Chelsea, while other reports have stated the opposite.

Journalism is an art form isn’t it. With the international break currently engulfing us, the numerous sports writers have taken the time to come up with another batch of ridiculous transfer rumours. Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi was one of their targets.

The Belgian was initially linked with a Stamford Bridge departure. Apparently his lack of playing time was causing him to consider a move to Marseille. Now, The Guardian reports that Batshuayi is not going anywhere.

"Michy Batshuayi is determined to fight for a starting spot at Chelsea despite reports linking him with a return to Marseille on loan despite his £33m summer move…It is understood that the player is happy in London and wants to show he can make an impact under the Italian manager."

Let’s just be frank about this. Michy Batshuayi was never near the door. He only joined a few months ago.

The Belgian was Chelsea’s only attacking signing over the summer. Batshuayi came over in a deal worth more than £30 million and despite his infrequent starts, he has made an impact.

Batshuayi was Antonio Conte’s go-to man on the bench during the opening weeks of the campaign. As Chelsea regularly sought late goals, the striker was thrust on and he paid dividends.

His performances have been so impressive that many have pleaded for Conte to switch to a two-man striker formation. With Diego Costa hitting the back of the net consistently, a Costa-Batshuayi partnership has the fans salivating.

However, it seems that the youngster will have to sit tight for the moment. Even when Conte adopted a three-man defence against Hull, there was no room for Batshuayi on the field.

He does appear to feature in Conte’s long-term plans, though. The fact that the Italian has leant so heavily on Batshuayi in times of need is an indication of how much he values him.

With that in mind, it is reassuring to read that he is eager to prove himself. The rumours regarding an exit were probably plucked out of thin air, but when speculation starts, it is often hard to stop. This latest development will hopefully put an end to this episode.

The Premier League is back next weekend.
