After finally making the switch to the three-man defence, Antonio Conte may be facing another tactical conundrum as a potential ban looms over Victor Moses.

In some slightly concerning news, Victor Moses could be forced to sit out Chelsea’s next game as an issue with the Nigerian national team is sorted out. The Nigerian federation accuses the Chelsea winger of feigning an injury to avoid an international fixture.

According to The Sun, Moses and fellow countryman Isaac Success could be banned if the federation proves their accusations against the pair.

"The Chelsea and Watford wingers both pulled out of the Super Eagles’ squad with injury but the Nigerian Football Federation are suspicious."

The publication also quotes the official FIFA stance on the matter, which indicates a potential suspension.

"A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club… during the period for which he has been released or should have been released. This restriction on playing for the club shall, moreover, be prolonged by five days in the event that the player, for whatsoever reason, did not wish to or was unable to comply with the call-up."

Nigeria took on Zambia over the international break, a game which both Moses and Success missed. The Chelsea man appeared injury-free during his last game against Hull, although he came off in the 85th minute.

Should the relevant authorities find Moses guilty of avoiding international duty, it would represent a blow for Antonio Conte, albeit a minor one.

Chelsea’s last game against Hull City saw the Blues properly employ a three-man formation for the first time this season. The lack of appropriate personnel was initially believed to be the restricting factor, but the club’s poor performances in their traditional set-up forced Conte’s hand.

Moses, after some impressive displays from the substitutes’ bench, earned a starting XI spot as one of the wing-backs. He equipped himself well in the slot, stating his case for the long-term role.

Given that Chelsea have few players suited to the position, Conte will have to run with a makeshift solution. He may even revert to the four-man defence should he deem the 3-4-3 too risky.

After an encouraging performance in the new formation, this would be an annoyance. A difficult game awaits the Blues on Saturday as Chelsea welcomes the defending champions, Leicester City. Chopping and changing tactics and personnel will only make life harder for Conte and his club.
