Tammy Abraham is catching the eyes of not only every Chelsea fan but every football fan. But with Chelsea’s history of letting talent slip through their fingers, how much of a future does Abraham have at Chelsea?

Tammy Abraham has been at Chelsea since age seven. He has developed through each age group, capping off his Academy career with back-to-back UEFA Youth Leagues and FA Youth Cups in 2015 and 2016.

He made his Premier League debut from the bench in the penultimate game of last season against Liverpool. He then came on against Leicester in the final game.

Now 19 years old, he is flying through the season for club and country, making everyone take notice of his immense talent. On loan at Bristol City, he has already notched eleven goals in all competitions for the Championship club. Abraham also scored a brace on his England Under-21 debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina over the last international break.

At 6’4″, Abraham poses a great threat in the air and has an abundance of pace and power to bully defenders. His eye for goal is incredible, allowing him to score all types of goals. Depending on the situation he resembles Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard or Sergio Aguero as he puts the Robins on the board.

Despite all of this, the question that every Chelsea fan wants answered is: will Tammy Abraham be a part of the first-team squad next season? Judging from what his performances so far, it should be a no brainer. No club should turn a blind-eye to what he’s been doing, but Chelsea has done it before (see:De Bruyne, Kevin).

Although Conte has said that the 3-5-2 formation doe not suit the team, he may still hope to revive it if he had the right lineup. Tammy Abraham and Diego Costa would be a great dual-striker partnership to lead Chelsea’s attack.

These two would not only score goals but will press and work hard off the ball. Both are always in the right place at the right time, causing all kinds of problems for any defence. Conte would have to figure out what to do with Hazard and Willian in a 3-5-2. But if Abraham continues to score goals for Bristol City, there is nothing more he can  – nor should have to – do to earn a place in the first-team.

Too much can happen in a season to make any final determinations about Tammy Abraham this early. Yes, he started the campaign extremely well.  But he is still very young and it is important that the expectations do not run amok.

However, his potential is on display for all to see. It is vital that the club does not waste it by letting him rot on the bench next season. If he is not going to play much for Chelsea in 2017/18, another loan within the Premier League will be the best option.

Abraham deserves to be in Chelsea’s first-team squad. He has earned his chance to play for Chelsea. Even if he is not a regular starter he can still learn from Diego Costa and Eden Hazard so he can be an integral part of the squad in years to come.
