Chelsea great Michael Essien is back at Cobham as he rejoins the Blues for a bit of fitness training. I doubt many people are complaining.

Michael Essien is reaching the denouement of his career, but that is not stopping him from keeping in shape. The midfielder has returned to Chelsea to use the facilities and maintain his fitness as he pushes for another active season.

The Ghanaian took to Instagram to reveal his Cobham reunion, posting a video of him dressed in Chelsea’s bright training tops.

Fueled by Carabao, I presume.

Essien is currently without a club, having been released by Panathinaikos over the summer. Somewhat surprisingly, he failed to be picked up before the season started.

Evidently keen to play on, he has returned to Chelsea to keep healthy. Essien spent nine years with the Blues, anchoring Jose Mourinho’s initial triumphant squad. He continued to win trophies under Mourinho’s successors and ended up leaving with two league titles, four FA Cups, one League Cup and the Champions League to his name.

At the age of 33, Essien should still have a couple of decent seasons left in him. However, his injury problems appear to have tempered his attractiveness. The midfielder has suffered from knee injuries throughout his career, which may have cut short his active career span.

Having said that, you would think that some club in the MLS or China would have thrown money at him by now. Perhaps they have and Essien has simply refused it?

Whatever the case may be, Chelsea fans will certainly be pleased to see Essien back in Chelsea colours. He was a great servant for the club and one who will continue to be appreciated for years to come.
