Down another glass of egg nog and gather the family around the Yule Log for this heart-warming tale of a Christmas night with Diego Costa…

Twas the night before Boxing Day and all through the Bridge,
Only Diego was stirring as he went to the fridge.
With an extra day off he reached for a beer
Knowing that Conte soon would be there.

When from out on the pitch he heard a loud whistle,
And shot to his feet, like a Hazard-launched missile.
Out of the locker room and through the tunnel he ran,
And there saw John Terry, stopwatch in hand!

Gary Cahill led the first team through their drills and their paces,
While JT looked around at eager Academy faces.

“Oi Eden, oi Willy, Pedro and Cesc, you too!
Show Tammy and Bertrand how to do what you do!
Young Mason, young Charlie, Fikayo, look here!
Learn quickly from Cesar, and you’ll be a full Blue in a year!”

Costa turned on his heel, not a moment to lose
To lace up his boots and throw on his blues!
He took his place on the pitch at the top of line
Shrugging off the effects of his holiday wine.

A cross from Alonso! A through-ball from Kante!
He pounced and he fought as he does on match day.

Unbeknownst to all, way up in a suite
Roman and Antonio watched the players compete.
“I knew it was you,” the rich Russian said
“Who’d bring some more trophies to the Shed End.”

“You buy the fabric, and I’ll make the suit,
I’ll sew up the wins for not that much loot.
You’ve nothing to worry, I’m not like Jose.
Beautiful football is the new Chelsea way.”

As they stepped out of the box on this cold London eve
Diego Costa looked up and wiped his brow on his sleeve.
He called to his teammates and gathered them ‘round
In the middle of Chelsea’s hallowed home ground.

“Bournemouth tomorrow, for another three points we fight.
Til then, Merry Christmas to all and to all a Blue night!”
