John Terry has been linked with a January loan move to Bournemouth. Given Chelsea’s current situation, this may be best for all parties.

The current defensive situation at Stamford Bridge is in a state of uncertainty. Antonio Conte has just recalled Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, but club captain John Terry may be headed in the other direction. There is a case to be made that this would be the best decision for the Chelsea skipper.

According to The Telegraph, Eddie Howe is considering an audacious move for the Englishman, who is down the pecking order under Antonio Conte.

"Bournemouth are considering a loan move this month for the out-of-favour Chelsea captain John Terry…Signing Terry until the end of the season would give Howe’s team experience."

Terry made his return to the field during Chelsea’s FA Cup tie with Peterborough. However, it was not a happy one. The captain lasted 67 minutes before making a clumsy challenge and being sent off.

Chelsea have since lost their appeal against the ban and thus he will be unavailable for this weekend’s game against Leicester City. It is unlikely, though, that he would have been anywhere near the starting line-up.

While Terry has been out with injury, the team has been transformed into a side that are leading the Premier League. Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill have formed an unlikely, yet formidable, partnership at the centre of a back three.

Furthermore, with Kurt Zouma back and Ake match-fit, there is simply no room for Terry. The defender has previously stated that he would like to play throughout his last active days, a wish that will not be granted at Stamford Bridge.

With Howe losing Ake, Terry could feasibly step into Bournemouth’s first-team plans. Terry and Ake are wildly different players, but the former brings a wealth of experience that could prove invaluable to a mid-table side.

The stumbling block would be the emotional aspect of the switch. Terry has known only one club for the entirety of his extensive professional career. Would he be willing to break his Chelsea association for a six month period?

Chelsea are unlikely to offer Terry a new playing contract at the end of the season, but a coaching one may be on the table. With that in mind, the Blues great could take an early retirement if management would rather move him out the way for the moment.
