Marco van Ginkel sets record, gets back on track with PSV
Away from Stamford Bridge, Marco van Ginkel is making an impression at PSV as he keeps his Chelsea dreams alive and kicking.
Chelsea’s main activity during the January transfer window has centred around their plethora of loan players. Marco van Ginkel was sent to PSV as 2017 dawned and he has been making a significant impression during his second spell with the club.
Van Ginkel has reached a tally of ten goals in 15 Eredivisie games for PSV, becoming the only midfielder in club history with such a record.
Van Ginkel’s 89th minute equaliser (closely followed by a Hector Moreno winner) on Sunday pushed him into double figures for Eredivisie goals. The midfielder scored eight times in 13 league games last season as he helped PSV to the title.
He has spent the first half of this campaign recovering from a knee injury, but it appears to have not hindered him in the slightest. Two goals in two games since his return to the Netherlands has Chelsea fans salivating again.
Van Ginkel has always been touted as a potential superstar in West London, but he has not met expectations yet. Part of this is due to a lack of opportunities – he has played only four competitive Chelsea games since his arrival in 2013.

However, he seriously impressed last season with PSV. The Dutch outfit were interested in retaining his services, on either a temporary or permanent basis, but his knee injury scuppered any such plans. At that point, it was feared that van Ginkel may never fulfill his potential.
Fortunately, PSV were interested earlier this month and the 24-year-old is already repaying their faith. Furthermore, he extended his Chelsea contract before departing, suggesting that Blues management still believe in his ability.
Two games is not a significant sample to make wild predictions off, but if van Ginkel carries on in the same vein, the future is bright. Last season was the rebirth of the Dutchman and this season will hopefully see him kick on.
He has made a great start to his second PSV stint, but what do you think lies in his future? The Chelsea first-team? Or a permanent switch to a club like PSV? Let us know below!
